I have been programming for over 30 years and doing machine learning research for 20. I worked as a data scientist / deep learning researcher and senior software engineer at Google Accelerated Science, using a range of machine learning models to accelerate quantum mechanics calculations by orders of magnitude, in collaboration with external researchers. Previously, I worked as a principal data scientist for Quanttus, and I was the first member of Ray Kurzweil's artificial intelligence team at Google. I am a TED Fellow. I completed a PhD in computer science and computational biology at MIT, in collaboration with Harvard Medical School. My background is in computational biology and bioinformatics, algorithm design, machine learning, computer graphics, information theory, natural language processing and artificial intelligence. My PhD research at MIT involved analysis of genomic regulators of cell phenotype in C. elegans. As a side project, I am designing a new type of automatical
